Electric pallet trucks are widely used in indoor warehouses, distribution centers and logistics yards for short-distance goods transport, and their operation performance is closely related to surrounding environment conditions, among which ramp status is a key factor that easily gets ignored by many operators.
1. Influence of Ramp Slope Gradient
Under normal working conditions, most standard electric pallet trucks are designed to adapt to a certain range of ramp gradient. When the actual slope exceeds the rated allowable range of the equipment, the traction motor will run with higher load for a long time, which will increase battery power consumption significantly, and may lead to unexpected protection trigger if the load is also full at the same time. Going upward on an over-standard ramp with overloaded goods may also cause the equipment to slip backward, while going downward at excessive speed will bring extra burden to the braking system and raise hidden safety risks. Operators should confirm the rated applicable ramp parameter of the equipment before passing any ramp, and avoid operating with full load on slopes that exceed the specified limit.
2. Impact of Ramp Surface Friction
Ramp surface friction condition also exerts direct influence on operation performance. For dry and clean cement or epoxy ramps, the friction coefficient can meet the normal operation demand, and the equipment can maintain stable traction and reliable braking effect. If the ramp surface is stained with spilled oil, water stain or accumulated dust for a long time, the friction coefficient will drop obviously, which will extend the braking distance and may cause the driving wheels to slip when going upward with heavy loads. In low temperature environments, if the ramp surface freezes, the operation difficulty will rise further, and operators need to take extra caution to control the running speed at a very low level.
3. Effect of Ramp Surface Evenness
The evenness of ramp surface is another non-negligible factor. If there are obvious potholes, raised ridges or damaged gaps on the ramp, the running stability of electric pallet trucks will be reduced, and the goods carried on the forks may shift or even fall off when passing these uneven areas. Long-term operation on uneven ramps will also cause extra wear to the wheels and chassis parts of the equipment, shorten the daily maintenance cycle, and increase the overall operation cost of the logistics system. Regular inspection and repair of ramp damage can effectively reduce this kind of negative impact.
To keep stable operation performance of electric pallet trucks on ramps, relevant management teams can make targeted rules for ramp use in the working area, mark clear reminder signs of allowable load and maximum slope at the entry of each ramp, and arrange regular cleaning and inspection for ramp surface status. It is also recommended to provide targeted training for all equipment operators, to help them master correct operation posture when passing different ramps, avoid sudden direction change or sudden brake on slopes, so as to reduce unnecessary safety risks and extend the service life of the equipment.
