Daily warehouse material handling relies heavily on electric pallet trucks, and non-standard pre-start operations often lead to unexpected equipment downtime, cargo damage and even minor safety incidents. Regular pre-start routine training for all frontline warehouse team members is a low-cost, high-return measure to stabilize operational safety and extend equipment service life.
Training Preparations
Before launching the formal training session, the warehouse management team should arrange 1.5 hours of off-peak operation time, select a well-ventilated empty operation area without stacked cargo, prepare the target electric pallet truck under regular maintenance status, distribute printed operation guidance leaflets to all trainees, and arrange a certified internal safety trainer to lead the whole session. No unrelated personnel are allowed to enter the training area during the whole process to avoid unnecessary interference.
Core Pre-start Routine Training Modules
The first training module focuses on external visual inspection. Trainers will guide every team member to check the vehicle appearance from four sides first, confirm there is no obvious crack, deformation or scratch on the fork, frame and guard parts, check if the tire wear level is within the safe range, remove any sundries such as packaging scraps, small stones stuck on the wheel gaps, and check if the power cord interface is free of looseness or corrosion.
The second module covers function debugging check. After finishing the visual inspection, trainees will be guided to power on the device at no-load status, test the lifting and lowering function of the fork repeatedly 2 to 3 times to confirm the movement is smooth without stuck, test the forward and reverse travel function, check if the emergency stop button can respond quickly once triggered, and confirm the warning light and prompt sound are working normally.
The third module is status confirmation before formal operation. After all function checks pass, trainees need to confirm the remaining power level meets the demand of the current shift’s handling tasks, check if the operation area has no slippery ground, steep slope or obstacles that may affect travel, and adjust their own standing or holding posture to meet the safe operation requirements.
Post-training Assessment and Daily Implementation Rules
After the theoretical explanation and on-site practice session, each trainee needs to finish the independent pre-start routine operation under the supervision of the trainer, only those who finish all steps correctly can pass the assessment. The warehouse management team will post the simplified pre-start check checklist at the equipment charging area, arrange weekly spot check to confirm all team members develop good operation habits, effectively reduce hidden safety risks in daily handling work.
