The global lithium forklift sector has maintained steady growth in recent years, as more logistics, manufacturing and port operation sites choose low-carbon, high-efficiency lithium-powered material handling equipment to replace traditional internal combustion and lead-acid forklift products. Against this background, regional industry regulation bodies around the world have released a series of updated standards targeting lithium forklift manufacturing, to unify performance, safety and testing specifications for the whole production chain.
The newly revised industry standards make clear supplementary requirements on lithium battery assembly and whole machine safety protection. Previous old versions of specifications only set basic testing thresholds for core cells, while the updated rules add clear mandatory parameters for the full battery pack assembly process: the whole lithium battery unit shall keep stable insulation resistance value under working temperature ranging from -20℃ to 55℃, all high-voltage wiring loops shall reach specified anti-arc sealing level, and all wiring layout finished in the assembly line shall pass standard vibration and tension tests to avoid exposed conductive parts beyond allowed tolerance. Besides, the new standards also add mandatory whole vehicle sampling testing rules: each batch of mass-produced lithium forklifts shall be sampled to complete 1-meter height side and frontal drop test, to ensure no thermal runaway or electrolyte leakage happens after normal accidental collision. The emergency stop button installed on operation panel shall complete power-off response within 0.3 seconds, which effectively reduces operation risk for site workers.
For lithium forklift manufacturers, these standard updates will not bring unreasonable extra production cost if the production line adjusts procedures properly. Most qualified manufacturing plants can finish the upgrading of testing links within 2 to 3 months by adding necessary testing equipment and optimizing original standard operating procedures. It is suggested that all related enterprises set up special standard tracking teams, to follow the latest regulation updates of different sales regions in time, avoid unauthorized modification of BMS system preset parameters, and attach complete compliance test reports for each delivered unit. These industry standard updates will further promote the healthy and orderly development of the whole lithium forklift industry, and support the stable popularization of safe, reliable lithium-powered industrial handling equipment.
