Warehouse operation zones feature overlapping pedestrian flow, stacked goods, narrow aisles and frequent material transfer, which makes unregulated electric forklift speed a top hidden risk that may cause goods damage, personnel injury and operation interruption. Targeted speed-management training for electric forklift operators is a core part of warehouse safety system construction, and can effectively balance operation efficiency and safety guarantee without additional excessive cost input.
The first core part of the training is to clarify differentiated speed standards for different functional zones. For main material transport aisles with few pedestrians and wide space, the maximum allowed speed can be set at a reasonable level to ensure transfer efficiency. For mixed operation zones where staff and forklift share the space, picking areas with frequent personnel movement, and loading/unloading zones connected to external platforms, the speed limit should be lowered properly, and operators are required to keep full control of the vehicle at any time. Trainees will also learn to judge the actual road conditions, and adjust speed adaptably even within the specified limit when encountering temporary obstacles, wet ground or low visibility conditions.
The second module of the training covers practical skill exercises related to speed control. Trainees will experience the actual braking distance of electric forklifts under different load states, so as to master the safe response distance to emergencies. They will also receive simulation training to identify hidden risks in advance, such as sudden crossing of pedestrians from the shelf corner, and complete deceleration and parking operations smoothly in the specified distance. The training also emphasizes that operators should not blindly pursue transfer speed to meet work schedule requirements, and must strictly follow the speed rules even when carrying urgent goods.
The later stage of the training includes regular assessment and habit solidification exercises. The assessment will set up multiple actual warehouse scenarios to test trainees’ speed selection and risk response ability, and the team will conduct regular daily review to correct bad operation habits in time. After completing the complete training, the overall safety level of warehouse electric forklift operation will be significantly improved, and the incidence of safety accidents related to speed will be reduced effectively.
