In modern logistics and warehousing operations, electric pallet trucks are widely used for short-distance cargo transportation, and the working scenarios close to dock edges and trailer openings are high-risk areas that account for a large proportion of all pallet truck related safety accidents. Without standardized operation procedures, operators may face risks such as vehicle falling from high positions, collision with inner wall of trailers, cargo tipping and personnel injury, which will cause unnecessary property loss and personal harm.
Before starting any operation near dock edges and trailer openings, operators need to complete a full range of pre-work checks first. Confirm that the dock edge protective facilities are in normal working condition, the non-slip performance of the ground near the edge is intact, and there is no accumulated water, loose sundries or oily stains that may cause slipping. Check that the trailer is fully locked after docking, solid wheel blocks are installed on both sides of the trailer tires, and the load-bearing capacity of the transition plate between the dock and the trailer matches the total weight of the electric pallet truck plus the loaded goods. Operators also need to test the emergency braking function of the electric pallet truck before entering the operation area, and make sure the loaded cargo is stably stacked on the pallet without overweight or unbalanced center of gravity.
When operating electric pallet trucks near dock edges, operators should keep a minimum safe distance of 0.5 meters from the edge line under normal circumstances, and control the driving speed at the level of normal walking speed. It is forbidden to conduct sharp turns, sudden acceleration or sudden deceleration actions within 1 meter of the dock edge. If the view of the operator is blocked by stacked cargo, a special on-site commander should be arranged to remind the surrounding environment information, instead of forcing driving through the blind area.
When entering and exiting the trailer opening, operators need to confirm the internal condition of the trailer first, to make sure there is no hidden trouble such as collapsed floor, scattered sundries or unleveled ground inside the carriage. Do not rush to the innermost position of the trailer after entering the carriage, and slowly adjust the position of the pallet to avoid violent impact on the inner wall of the carriage. After completing the unloading task, drive the electric pallet truck out of the trailer steadily at a low speed, and do not turn on the transition plate between the trailer and the dock.
All relevant operators need to receive systematic safety training before taking up the post, and master correct emergency response methods. Once the vehicle shows signs of slipping near the dock edge, press the emergency stop button immediately, and do not jump off the vehicle by mistake to avoid secondary injury. Regular on-site safety risk investigation can also effectively reduce the probability of safety accidents.
