Shared warehouses usually have high personnel mobility, mixed groups including full-time warehouse staff, temporary sorting workers, third-party delivery personnel and external visitors, with no long-term fixed workflow arrangement in most scenarios. Such open and dynamic operating environment brings higher hidden safety risks for the mixed traffic of electric pallet trucks and pedestrians, making the implementation of clear pedestrian-separation rules an essential part of daily safety management.
First of all, it is necessary to complete the physical partition of operation areas before formal daily work. Managers should mark out exclusive driving lanes for electric pallet trucks and independent dedicated pedestrian passageways with high-visibility warning signs, and clearly set no-entry marks to restrict crossing behaviors of two types of traffic flows. No idle pallets, packaging residues or scattered goods can be stacked within 1 meter on both sides of all passages, to ensure the full view of operators and pedestrians at all intersections, and avoid blind spots caused by temporary stacked items.
Secondly, it is required to clarify the respective operation norms for electric pallet truck operators and on-site pedestrians. All electric pallet truck operators need to complete targeted safety training before entering the shared working area, they should keep the driving speed under the specified limit when passing through pedestrian dense sections, and actively slow down and yield to pedestrians at all unmarked intersections. For all on-site personnel, they are required to walk along the dedicated pedestrian passage as much as possible, and shall not stay in the equipment driving area for a long time to sort goods, check order information or place personal items.
Thirdly, complete dynamic warning and regular inspection mechanisms. Each electric pallet truck should be equipped with effective audible and visual reminder devices, which will automatically send out clear warning signals when the equipment turns, decelerates or enters the cross area of pedestrian passages. The shared warehouse management team will arrange special patrol personnel at high-risk sections during daily operation peak hours, to correct non-standard behaviors of both sides timely. The team should also organize regular safety publicity and emergency drills for all personnel every month, to help every participant get familiar with the separation rules, form good operation habits, and continuously reduce potential safety hazards in the shared warehouse.
