Runaway incidents of electric pallet trucks on sloped surfaces are one of the most common hidden safety hazards in warehousing, logistics and manufacturing material handling scenarios. Such incidents are mostly caused by non-standard operation, neglected pre-check and improper emergency disposal, which may lead to cargo damage, personal injury and on-site operation disorder. Following scientific and compliant operation norms can effectively avoid most similar safety accidents.
First of all, complete full pre-operation condition check before entering sloped working areas. Operators need to test the normal response of the service brake and parking brake under no-load and light-load state first, to confirm there is no delay or failure of braking function. Then check the wear condition of walking wheels, if the tread wear is too serious to maintain sufficient friction with the ground, replace the corresponding parts in time before carrying out formal slope operation. Third, confirm that the total weight of the loaded goods does not exceed the rated load of the equipment, and the goods are placed evenly on the fork platform without partial overload or unstable stacking state that may cause center of gravity shift.
Secondly, follow clear standard operation rules when driving on sloped surfaces. Operators need to keep the equipment moving along the straight direction of the slope, never drive across the slope or turn on the sloped area, which will break the original stable stress state of the equipment and increase the risk of sideslip and runaway. When driving uphill, keep the load side facing the upper direction of the slope, to prevent the goods from slipping off and leading to sudden change of equipment stress. When driving downhill, adopt low-speed constant speed mode, do not step on the acceleration pedal suddenly, and keep slight control of the brake system to maintain stable and controllable driving speed. Do not park the electric pallet truck on the sloped surface casually in the process of moving, if temporary stop is necessary, keep the equipment in the straight direction of the slope, and pull the parking brake firmly.
Finally, implement standardized post-operation and emergency management measures. After completing the sloped surface operation task, park the electric pallet truck on the flat and firm ground area, avoid leaving the equipment on the sloped road for a long time. For the working scenario where the equipment has to stay on the gentle slope temporarily, place non-slip stop blocks on both sides of the walking wheels to avoid accidental slipping. Organize regular safety training for all operators, let them master the correct disposal method once the equipment shows trend of out of control on the slope, avoid misoperation that will expand the safety risk.
