Once a lithium-ion battery pack for electric forklift is found with visible damage including casing crack, electrolyte leakage, abnormal bulging or overheating during daily use, operators must follow standardized on-site handling procedures to avoid potential safety hazards.
First, perform immediate primary control after identifying damage. Cut off the total power connection of the forklift at the first time, push the vehicle to an open area far away from flammable and combustible materials such as paper products, plastic packaging and wooden pallets. Set up clear warning barriers within 3 meters of the damaged battery, and prohibit all irrelevant personnel from approaching the operation area. Do not squeeze, puncture the damaged battery at will, and do not try to connect it to any charging device for test, which may trigger short circuit and thermal runaway.
Second, complete full personal protection before further operation. All on-site personnel involved in handling work shall wear nitrile insulating gloves, impact-resistant safety goggles and flame-retardant work clothes, and do not wear chemical fiber clothing with static accumulation risk. If the leaked electrolyte accidentally contacts the skin or eyes, rinse the affected part with a large amount of clean water for no less than 15 minutes immediately, and seek medical treatment in time.
Third, conduct standard transfer and temporary storage. Use dedicated flame-retardant insulated transfer trolley to move the damaged battery steadily, avoid violent collision, vibration or inversion during the carrying process. Place the battery in a special ventilated explosion-proof temporary storage area, lay a flame-retardant anti-seepage mat on the ground of the area, and control the ambient temperature below 30 degrees Celsius. Arrange specially assigned staff to inspect the stored damaged battery at an interval of 30 minutes, and record the surface temperature and state of the battery each time.
Finally, complete subsequent compliant disposal. Do not disassemble the damaged battery pack without professional qualification, and do not mix it with ordinary industrial waste. Notify the qualified professional lithium battery disposal service provider to come to the site for recycling and treatment, and archive all operation records of the whole handling process for later safety audit. Regularly organize on-site operating personnel to carry out relevant safety training, to ensure every staff can master the correct operation process.
