Walk-behind electric pallet jacks are core equipment for frequent low-intensity material handling in warehouses, distribution centers and retail stockrooms, and standardized operator training is the core prerequisite to avoid operational injuries, equipment damage and unnecessary cargo loss. A structured training checklist can help training instructors cover all necessary modules without missing key details, and help operators form correct operation habits in a systematic way.
The first core training module covers pre-operation cognition and inspection. Trainees need to get familiar with the basic structure of the equipment, including load wheels, control handle, emergency stop button, battery compartment and load forks, recognize the meaning of all pasted safety marks, and clearly remember the rated load capacity of the equipment. They will never attempt to carry cargo exceeding the marked load limit even for short-distance movement. Trainees also need to master the full pre-use inspection process: check the appearance of the forks for cracks or deformation, confirm the battery power level is sufficient for the planned shift, test the lifting and lowering function of the forks under no-load status, verify the brake system and control response are sensitive and stable, and check the planned operation path for potential obstacles, potholes or slippery zones before starting formal work.
The second module focuses on standard operation specifications. Trainees must learn to keep a stable standing position at the side of the equipment instead of standing in the moving direction of the pallet jack, never allow any other personnel to ride on the equipment, keep the moving speed below the safe threshold suitable for the site environment, slow down and trigger the warning prompt when passing through doorways, turning corners or encountering pedestrian crossings. When carrying loaded pallets, operators should keep the load as low as possible to avoid cargo tipping, maintain a clear view of the moving path, and never pull the pallet jack backward for long distance unless the forward view is completely blocked by stacked heavy cargo.
The last module covers emergency handling and post-operation standard. Trainees must master the correct operation of cutting off power via the emergency stop button when abnormal situations occur, learn to report equipment faults immediately to the management team instead of attempting to repair the equipment without professional permission. After finishing the daily work shift, operators should park the pallet jack in the designated storage area, fully lower the forks to the ground, turn off the power switch, and connect the equipment to the dedicated charging point if the remaining power is lower than the standard threshold, and wipe off sundries attached to the equipment body. The full training process should include theoretical knowledge assessment and practical operation examination, only operators who pass both two parts can get the qualification to use the walk-behind electric pallet jack independently. Regular recurrent training every 6 to 12 months can help operators refresh relevant safety rules, adapt to new site layout adjustment and new handling demand, to keep long-term safe and efficient operation of the whole material handling system.
