Low temperature, snow and ice conditions in winter will bring different degrees of influence to the performance, operation stability and service life of electric forklifts, which puts forward higher requirements for the standard operation of front-line operators. Following targeted cold-season operation rules can effectively reduce unnecessary equipment failures, prevent operation safety risks, and ensure the smooth progress of daily material handling work.
Pre-operation inspection is the first critical step before starting any electric forklift in cold seasons. Operators should first wipe off the condensed water on the surface of the battery and control panel, check whether the wiring terminals are firm and free of frost, and follow the vehicle's built-in low-temperature preheating procedure completely, instead of forcing the startup by skipping the preheating process. Next, check the brake sensitivity, tire tread condition, and remove the ice and snow debris clamped in the tire gaps to avoid slipping during operation. Operators also need to test the lifting and tilting function of the door frame for 2 to 3 times without load after starting, confirm that the hydraulic oil works smoothly without jamming, and then carry out subsequent loading operation.
During the on-site operation process in cold weather, operators should maintain a low and stable speed at the initial stage of driving, avoid sharp acceleration, sharp steering and sharp braking, especially for the operation area with frozen ground, the actual driving speed should be controlled below half of the normal rated speed. Do not run the electric forklift under full load for a long continuous time, appropriately reduce the single carrying weight according to the actual ambient temperature, to avoid excessive load causing damage to the motor and battery. During the short rest period of operation, operators can keep the vehicle running at low idle power instead of turning off the power directly, which can maintain the basic working temperature of core components and avoid unexpected shutdown caused by sudden temperature drop. It is not allowed to park the electric forklift in an open and draughty outdoor area for a long time, to prevent the core electrical components from being frosted and failing to work normally.
After the daily operation, operators need to do a good job of targeted cold season maintenance. First, move the forklift to the indoor parking area with basic thermal insulation condition in time, clean up the accumulated snow and ice slush on the body, tire and chassis to prevent the parts from being frozen and stuck. Check the battery electrolyte level regularly every week, replenish the liquid in time according to the standard requirements, and do not use open fire to bake any frozen pipeline or component, to avoid safety hazards. Operators should also regularly check the insulation layer of the circuit, replace the aging and cracked sealing parts in time, to ensure the electric forklift can maintain stable working performance in the whole cold season.
