High-rack storage zones are widely adopted in modern warehousing to maximize vertical space utilization, while the dense arrangement of tall racks and stacked goods often creates multiple visual blind spots for electric forklift operators during daily handling operations. Implementing standardized visibility management protocols helps reduce unnecessary safety hazards and maintain stable operation order of the whole warehouse.
Before entering the high-rack zone for formal operation, operators shall complete a full set of pre-start visibility check procedures first. Adjust the seat to a suitable position to ensure that you can clearly observe the fork tips, front driving path and surrounding rack status without blocking your sight. Check the auxiliary viewing components including rearview mirrors and visual warning accessories to remove dust, obstructions or sundries attached to the surface, to guarantee the auxiliary viewing function works normally. Walk around the vehicle for one circle to clear the temporary obstacles such as idle pallets and scattered packaging materials stacked beside the operation channel, which may block the line of sight.
During the moving process in the high-rack channel, operators shall keep the mast tilted back properly, and control the fork lifting height within the safe range of 30 cm above the ground, to avoid the over-high lifted forks blocking the front driving sight. When it is necessary to lift the goods to a height of more than 1.5 meters for picking or placing goods at high positions, stop the vehicle at the designated operation position completely first, and do not move the vehicle in the state of high load lifting. Do not lean your body out of the cab to observe the alignment position of the forks and the pallet, to avoid accidental collision with the protruding part of the rack column. Use the supporting visibility aids to confirm the surrounding environment and the docking status of the goods steadily.
For special working conditions with poor visibility, such as channel turns, end of aisles or insufficient ambient light, operators shall honk the horn in advance and reduce the driving speed to below 5km per hour. When the operation peak comes with multiple devices and personnel moving at the same time, cooperate with the on-site warehouse supervisor to confirm the blind spot status before passing the special section. Strict implementation of these visibility protocols can effectively reduce the occurrence of collision accidents between forklifts, personnel, racks and goods, and continuously improve the overall safety level of electric forklift operation in high-rack zones.
