Working in typical dusty zones including raw material storage yards, agricultural processing workshops and construction material warehouses, electric forklift operators face dual risks from suspended fine dust: long-term dust irritation to eye tissues, and reduced operation visibility caused by dense dust distribution, which may easily lead to collision, cargo dropping and other safety accidents. Following standardized eye-protection and visibility operation rules can effectively eliminate hidden dangers and protect personal health and operation safety.
For eye protection specifications, all on-duty operators must wear certified dust-proof eye protection equipment with full side coverage, instead of ordinary myopia glasses or sun glasses that cannot block fine dust from entering the eye sockets. Operators need to check the integrity of eye protection tools before each shift, replace goggles with deep scratches or cracked lenses in time, and never take off the protective equipment even for short-distance moving operations, to avoid unexpected dust impact on eyes. If fine dust accidentally enters the eye during operation, do not rub the eye with dirty hands, go to the nearby fixed eyewash station for rinsing immediately, and seek professional medical help if the irritation persists after rinsing.
For visibility management rules in dusty zones, operators need to clean all dust attached to the electric forklift’s front viewing window, rear view mirrors and overhead guard transparent panel before starting the machine every day, to avoid residual dust blurring the viewing line. Do not stack irrelevant sundries on the cab rack that may block the front or side sight. When transporting bulky cargos that exceed the safe stacking height and block the front view of operators, the operator should drive the forklift backward at low speed, and arrange a specially assigned signal staff to assist with path guidance if the dust concentration is higher than usual. It is not allowed to force forward when the front sight distance is lower than 3 meters, to avoid hitting nearby pedestrians or stacked cargos.
The site management team shall arrange regular safety training for all electric forklift operators every quarter, check the wearing situation of eye protection equipment in daily patrol, and maintain the site dust reduction facilities such as fog spray devices in regular schedules, to keep the dust concentration within the safe range and create a more secure operation environment.
