Hands are the most frequently used body parts during electric pallet truck operation, and also one of the most vulnerable parts to injuries such as crush, pinch, scrape and stab in daily material handling scenarios. Forming standardized hand-safety habits throughout the whole operation process can effectively avoid most preventable occupational injuries, and create a safer working environment for all on-site staff.
Before starting the electric pallet truck, operators shall finish a series of hand-related safety checks first. Remove loose ornaments such as wide rings, hanging bracelets and long wristbands before duty, and fasten loose cuffs of work clothes to prevent these items from being caught by moving parts during operation. Select properly fitted anti-slip work gloves instead of oversize ones, to ensure you can operate the control lever stably without the risk of excess glove fabric hooking on surrounding protruding structures. Do not start the machine if your hands are wet or stained with heavy grease, wipe them completely clean first to avoid slipping off the control handles.
During the whole operation process, strictly follow the specified hand operation rules. Keep your hands only on the designated grip area of the operation handle, never reach your hands into the gap between the handle and the truck body, or stretch any part of hands into the lifting mechanism of the pallet forks. When you find the loaded goods shift during traveling, do not push the goods with your hands directly before you fully stop the truck, cut off the power and set the brake. When passing narrow aisles, corner positions and areas with protruding shelf parts, keep a safe distance between your hands and surrounding fixed facilities to avoid unexpected scrape.
After finishing the operation task, also follow hand-safety requirements during post-operation procedures. Lower the pallet forks to the designated lowest position completely before you leave the truck, never put your hands under the forks to test the leveling condition. Cut off the power and pull out the key before you conduct daily cleaning of the truck body, do not wipe moving components with rags during the machine is in standby running state. If you find the control lever is stuck or other abnormal conditions related to hand operation, report to the management team in time instead of dismantling the related parts without professional guidance. Regularly attend safety training refresh sessions to update your safety awareness, and remind new co-workers of these hand-safety tips together.
