Introducing electric forklift safety walkthroughs as a core onboarding session for new warehouse staff is critical to reduce avoidable operational risks in daily logistics scenarios. Unlike theoretical training held in meeting rooms, on-site walkthroughs combine physical check practices and real scenario hazard recognition, helping new team members build solid safety awareness from the very first day of their work. All related sessions should be arranged in non-peak operation hours to avoid disturbing normal material handling workflows, and all participants are required to wear standard personal protective equipment including high-visibility vests and non-slip safety work shoes before stepping into the operation zone.
The first phase of the practice is guided point-to-point check along the electric forklift itself. The trainer will lead new staff to walk around the whole vehicle first to inspect external components: check for abnormal tire wear, loose mounting parts, visible deformation or crack on forks, and any unexpected leakage of lubricant. Then move to the battery compartment to confirm no loose wires or corrosion on connection points, and the electrolyte level meets the standard requirement for normal operation. Next, guide new staff to sit on the operation seat, test the responsiveness of service brake, parking brake, warning horn, direction indicator and lighting system, to make sure all control parts work steadily before formal operation. Trainees should be reminded that no electric forklift can be put into use if any unqualified point is found during this phase, and all issues must be reported to the supervisor for professional maintenance immediately.
The second phase is cross-scenario walkthrough around the whole warehouse. The trainer will walk with new staff along all regular driving routes of electric forklifts, point out common hidden hazards including uneven ground patches, overstocked materials that occupy the driving lane, blind zones at aisle intersections, and stacked goods that are not stably fixed. New staff will be required to point out at least 3 hidden risks independently during this phase, and explain the proper disposal method for each risk.
After finishing the whole walkthrough, the trainer will arrange a practical assessment for each new staff, asking them to complete a full safety check for one electric forklift independently, and record all check points on the standard pre-operation inspection form. Any missed check point will be corrected on site, and the training record will be filed for follow-up review. Regular refresh sessions for safety walkthroughs will be held once every month, to help all warehouse staff keep good operation habits and maintain a stable safe working environment.
