When warehouse management teams launch layout redesign planning projects, they often prioritize adjusting shelf placement and storage zone division, but easily ignore the matching degree between handling equipment parameters and aisle specifications, which may lead to unsmooth operation routes, frequent vehicle scratching, or wasted available storage space. Reasonable reference to reach truck parameter data can effectively avoid these hidden troubles in the early stage of planning.
For conventional BYD reach truck models with rated load capacity ranging from 1.2 ton to 2 ton, the minimum turning radius under no-load condition is generally between 1550mm and 1780mm. The slight difference of turning radius under rated full load condition is controlled within 30mm, to keep stable steering performance at low and medium driving speed. The actual turning radius in daily operation will also have tiny differences according to the wear condition of driving wheels and the adjustment of steering system, but the variation range is very limited within normal maintenance cycle.
When calculating the suitable aisle width for operation, the minimum turning radius of the truck cannot be used directly as the only reference standard. Operators need to reserve extra space for the size of common pallets, and leave appropriate redundant space for normal driving operation, to avoid misoperation caused by operation fatigue under long-time working hours. For general application scenarios, the minimum safe operation aisle width should be 300mm to 450mm larger than the corresponding minimum turning radius. For working scenarios with lifting height over 6 meters, it is suggested to add extra 100mm safety margin on this basis, to adapt to the slight swing of load at high position.
These sets of reference data can provide clear support for the whole warehouse layout redesign planning process. Teams can adjust the original unnecessarily wide aisle space into effective storage zones, so as to improve the storage density per unit area of the warehouse without affecting normal operation efficiency. Meanwhile, the verified data can also help planners arrange the flow direction of incoming and outgoing goods reasonably, reduce unnecessary cross operation routes, and lower the risk of goods damage and equipment collision during daily material handling. Before finalizing the layout plan, the management team can combine the actual local pallet specification, ground flatness condition and operator operation habit to make tiny adjustment on the reference data, to get the most suitable scheme for the specific warehouse scenario.
