Many modern storage systems make full use of underground space to expand storage capacity, and such underground warehouse areas commonly have restricted vertical clearances, with various pipelines, fire protection sprinklers and power bridge frames distributed at the upper part of the space, which sets strict limits on the height of moving and operating material handling equipment. Compact electric forklifts, which feature compact body size and optimized height structure, have become the preferred handling tool for such special scenarios, and standardized application rules can help give full play to its performance advantage while avoiding unnecessary safety risks.
Before putting the equipment into daily use, the operation team needs to complete the pre-use parameter matching work first. It is suggested to measure the minimum net clear height of all operation areas in the underground warehouse in advance, marking out the areas with extra low clearances with obvious warning signs. The overall height of the forklift including the overhead guard, and the maximum lifting height of the mast after carrying goods, should reserve no less than 150mm safety margin compared to the minimum local net clearance, to avoid accidental scraping to the upper facilities during operation. Operators should not attempt to lift goods beyond the preset safe height limit in daily work.
During daily operation in limited-height areas, operators need to keep the mast in slight backward tilt state when driving, and keep the forks 100mm to 200mm above the ground surface to avoid accidental touch to the bottom of goods placed on low level shelves. Do not lift the forks to a high position when the forklift is moving, and reduce driving speed in advance before turning, to make sure the overhead structure of the forklift will not hit the protruding parts of the shelf upper layer. The specified charging area of the compact electric forklift should be set in the well-ventilated zone of the underground warehouse, and no charging operation is allowed to occupy the fire access passage.
For regular maintenance, the operation team should check the sensitive degree of the mast lifting limit device, the fastening state of overhead guard connectors and the response performance of the braking system on a weekly basis. It is recommended to calibrate the height warning sensor of the forklift every quarter, to make sure the device can send out prompt reminder in time when the lifting height is close to the preset safe value. Following the above guidance can effectively improve the cargo turnover efficiency of the limited-height underground warehouse, and support the stable and long-term operation of the whole storage logistics system.
