When selecting electric forklifts for daily warehouse, logistics or industrial material handling operations, operators and facility managers often face the critical choice between standard mast and high-lift mast configurations, with ceiling height and operational stability standing as two core factors that directly impact usage safety and work efficiency.
Standard mast electric forklifts usually come with a maximum lifting height ranging from 3 meters to 3.5 meters as common specifications, which are fully compatible with most low and medium storage rack layouts, or indoor operation spaces with ceiling height above 3.8 meters. The overall compact height of the mast at fully lowered state also allows the equipment to pass through standard height door openings, elevator car entrances and narrow access passages without additional modification. For this type of mast configuration, the gravity center of the whole equipment stays within the safe threshold range in most common working scenarios, as the lifting height is relatively limited, the load’s vertical shift distance is short during lifting, and the whole vehicle will not generate extra torque that breaks the original balance structure under rated load condition.
As for high-lift mast electric forklifts, their maximum lifting height can reach 6 meters or even higher according to actual configuration, which meets the storage demand of high-position dense racks that make full use of vertical warehouse space. The most prominent prerequisite for using this type of equipment is to confirm the clear ceiling height of the operation space, and reserve at least 0.5 meters of safe buffer space above the maximum lifting height to avoid collision between the top of the mast and building structure, pipelines, lighting fixtures and other overhead facilities. In terms of stability, operators need to pay extra attention to the gravity shift rule when using high-lift mast forklifts. When the load is lifted to a height over 4 meters, the combined gravity center of the vehicle body and the cargo will move upward and forward gradually, which will reduce the remaining balance margin of the chassis counterweight.
To ensure safe and efficient operation, relevant management personnel should first complete on-site measurement of all operation areas’ ceiling height before selecting equipment, and match the mast type according to the actual storage layout requirements. For high-lift mast electric forklift users, it is also necessary to arrange regular inspection of mast lubrication status, chain tension and wear condition of supporting components, and strictly follow the rated load and speed limit rules during high-lifting operation to maintain long-term stable and safe usage.
