Repetitive strain injuries are common chronic occupational discomforts among long-term electric pallet truck operators, usually caused by repeated small-range movements, long-term fixed postures and unnoticeable force bearing for consecutive hours. Most injuries initially show as mild soreness of wrists, shoulders, neck and lower back, and may develop into persistent mobility impact if operators ignore early signals and keep high-intensity operation for a long time.
The first core measure is to adjust operation behaviors following ergonomic principles. Before starting each shift, operators can adjust the control lever of the electric pallet truck to the proper height matching their own height, to avoid unnecessary upward stretching or waist bending during operation. When holding the control handle, keep the wrist in a natural straight state instead of maintaining a twisted angle for a long time. After completing each short-distance cargo transfer task, you can slightly move your wrists and shoulder joints for 10 to 20 seconds to relieve the accumulated muscle tension.
Secondly, make reasonable work schedule and carry out targeted safety training. The management team of the warehouse shall arrange operation tasks evenly, avoid arranging operators to carry out uninterrupted transfer work for more than 1 hour continuously. Set up 3 to 5 minutes of rest period for every 1 hour of operation, and guide operators to do simple stretching exercises for neck, waist and upper limbs during the break. Regular occupational health training shall be held to help all operators identify early symptoms of repetitive strain injuries, so that they can report physical discomfort in time and apply for temporary work adjustment instead of forcing themselves to keep working.
Thirdly, optimize the supporting facilities of the working environment. Keep the operation passage of the warehouse flat and clean to reduce extra bumping that brings extra vibration to the operators' arms and waists. Set up non-slip standing mats in the fixed cargo loading and unloading area, to reduce the pressure on the operators' legs and lumbar spine when they stand for a long time. Standardize the stacking height of goods on the shelf, to make the fork entry range of the electric pallet truck match the cargo position, so as to avoid operators bending down excessively to adjust the placement of goods.
The implementation of the above multi-dimensional measures can effectively reduce the occurrence probability of repetitive strain injuries, improve the long-term operation comfort of frontline staff, and maintain stable and efficient daily material handling work.
