Traditional electric forklift training usually combines theoretical classroom teaching and on-site real-machine operation, which requires occupying actual warehouse operation space and production equipment resources, and may bring potential hidden risks such as accidental collision of goods, equipment damage or minor personnel injury during the novice practice phase. Many frontline logistics teams are facing the common challenge of balancing training progress and normal production operation arrangements, making it difficult to arrange sufficient targeted practice scenarios for new learners to master all operation skills in a short period.
The application of augmented reality brings distinct innovations to the whole electric forklift training system. As an auxiliary training module before formal real-machine practice, it builds a fully simulated interactive operation space that does not interfere with daily warehouse operations. Trainees wearing standard AR devices can complete full process operation practice on virtual electric forklifts in different preset scenarios, covering narrow aisle turning, high-low level goods picking and placing, slope operation, temporary emergency obstacle avoidance and many other special scenarios that are hard to be fully reproduced in conventional training processes.
Unlike traditional training modes that rely on trainers’ follow-up observation and post-practice summary, the AR supported training system can send real-time visual prompts to trainees the moment non-standard operations occur. For example, it will remind trainees of adjusting the travel speed when they take turns too fast, or correct the wrong posture of goods picking when the fork height does not meet the safety requirements, which helps to deepen the correct operation memory of learners in time. The system can also record all the operation data of each trainee, so that training managers can adjust the subsequent training focus according to the individual weak points of different learners, and match the learning progress of personnel with different operation foundations.
The current AR electric forklift training mode does not replace the necessary real-machine practice links in the whole training system, but effectively reduces the error rate of new trainees when they first get in touch with real equipment. Practical application cases show that the introduction of this innovation can shorten the total training cycle to a certain extent, improve the overall safety awareness of electric forklift operators, and provide new feasible optimization ideas for the standardized operation management of the whole logistics and warehousing industry.
